CAC Conclave 2018

Ipas Development Foundation (IDF) organized the Third CAC Conclave – Expanding the Discourse on Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC) in India on July 3 – 4, 2018 in New Delhi.

The two-day conclave is part of a series of events aimed at creating a wider community of advocates for CAC in India. The objective of CAC Conclave is to provide a national platform for diverse voices for sharing their experiences and building a cohesive network of concerned advocates.

The conclave brought together experts from related domains – law, academics, service provision, advocacy, etc., to expand the discourse on the subject. The conclave opened with a few brave women who came forward to share their personal stories about having an abortion. Participants included members of CAC Connect (a network of CAC providers across 12 states of India), members of Unnati (a network of doctors and nurses trained in comprehensive contraceptive care in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh), professors from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, National Law University, and International Institute of Population Sciences, representatives of the Federation of the Obstetricians and Gynaecological Societies of India, development partners and partner organizations, social activists, and media.

Participants at the conclave reiterated that there was an urgent need to strengthen safe abortion services and create awareness on availability of comprehensive abortion care services across the country.
