The first CAC Conclave was held in New Delhi on June 27 and 28, 2016. In collaboration with the International Institute of Population Sciences, Human Rights Law Network, the YP Foundation, CAC Connect and others, Ipas Development Foundation (IDF) brought together advocates, service providers, lawyers and researchers working to increase access to safe abortion services and other related fields, along with established experts to enable sharing of experiences and leveraging of synergies.
The CAC Conclave was based on the following themes:
Young Women
Abortion and Technology
Abortion and Law
Abortion and Research
Abortion in Media
CAC Conclave aims to provide a national platform for a new generation of voices and to bring together an expanded community of advocates for comprehensive abortion care (CAC) in India. Through the CAC Conclave, we seek to engage with an expanded group of academicians, NGOs, researchers, lawyers, service providers etc. and expand the discourse on the subject which is limited to a small group of individuals and organizations.

Feedback for the CAC Conclave
It is really informative and a bridge between the end-level service provider and national/international level speakers or researchers. It is a fantastic initiative.
I learnt many new things, especially regarding the challenges of offering CAC services at remote and marginalised sectors, regarding the field realities, and also about the problems arising out of misinterpretation of PCPNDT Act and MTP Act by the administrative authorities, judiciary and media.
As I have worked on this project I had a fairly good knowledge about [comprehensive abortion care]. What I didn't know, and learnt in this conclave, was the important role that the media plays in high lighting and presenting the importance of CAC, nationally and internationally.
It was rather interesting to view issue of abortion from different perspectives. Returned back after an enriching experience.
It was integrated learning: people who are suffering, people helping them, and the media (people who can help) - all were under one roof to find some solutions for better abortion care.

I learnt some new things about research and the challenges faced by the ground staff while dealing with issues related to abortion. [At the next CAC Conclave, IDF] could bring in some people who have been trained by [IDF] at the district or PHC level. If possible, voices of some beneficiaries, stories from the ground about how lives were saved, if any, by your ground staff.
This conclave is very fruitful for all of us. We heard ideas [about managing] unsafe abortion in India. We find that there is a [need to bring awareness to the] community about legal issues and availability of services.
